☀️ Give Your Summer Wardrobe Some Serious Swish 💃
🗓️ Saturday, July 11th 9am-Noon
The feeling of wearing a garment you made yourself is like nothing else—especially one that fits you perfectly. Join us in the Sewing Loft to create your new favorite summer staple: a beautiful, custom-fitted skirt that showcases a fabric you truly love. 👗✨
📋 What You’ll Master:
- The Perfect Fit: Fundamentals of measurements
- Waistband Wisdom: Choosing between straight vs. curved and mastering elastic insertion for that smooth, professional finish.
- The Details: Anne’s Easy-peasy gathering techniques and those all-important sewn-in-seam pockets. 🧺
- Elevated Finishes: Pro tips for hemming and final touches that take your skirt from "homemade" to "handmade."
This is a great "next step" workshop. To ensure you have the best experience, you should have:
- Completed our Beginner Sewing Series (or have equivalent experience).
- Confidence using your machine for straight seams, finishing edges, and making buttonholes.
- A basic understanding of grainlines and seam allowances.
🎒 What to Bring to Class (We'll Supply the Rest!):
👗 The Fabric**: 2 ½ yards of 36-45” width OR 2 yards of 50” (or wider). Look for a lightweight, non-sheer woven cotton—like quilting cotton. See below for option to purchase fabric nearby.
🧵 The Thread: High-quality cotton-covered polyester all-purpose sewing thread in a matching color.
⚙️ The Gear: Your trusty sewing machine with all its accessories (don't forget the power cord, foot pedal and an empty bobbin!).
🪡 The Sharp Stuff: A few fresh machine needles (we carry them in the shop if you are funning low – you should plan to use a new needle for each project; dull needles can cause skipped stitches, broken thread and project anguish).
The Sewing Loft stocks these items for your use in class:

- Elastic
- Clear rotary cutting ruler
- Straight pins

- Marking chalk or pencil (wash-off, non-permanent)
